Schools for the Deaf

Schools for the Deaf is a half-hour program for those who are interested in learning a little more about the history of some of the oldest schools for the deaf. You will see some exciting pictures of the first three schools for the deaf: American School for the Deaf (ASD) Hartford, Connecticut, New York School for the Deaf (Fanwood) in White Plains, New York and Pennsylvania School for the Deaf (PSD) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It features interviews with Executive Director Winfield McChord from ASD, Headmaster, Dr. Robert Davila from Fanwood, and Headmaster Joseph E. Fischgrund from PSD. The quality of deaf education was at its peak in the 1800s. This was the Golden Age! Schools for the deaf were growing everywhere. Many teachers and founders were deaf.
