ASL
The American Sign Language Video Series (ASL Video Series) offers a new way to learn sign language. Unlike other resource materials on this topic, it is presented using familiar, easy-to- understand concepts - making it an excellent instructional program for people of all ages who want to learn sign language.
"Finally A Deaf company with an intuitive understanding of bilingual learning that has addressed the needs of ASL." - Dr. Lawrence R. Fleischer, Professor, Deaf Studies CSU, Northridge
Robinson family
The ASL Video Series consists of twelve (12) videotapes, each with one (1) complete lesson. The series is developed on different scenes in the life of the Robinson family; Brian, Anne, and their two deaf children, Kelly and Kevin.
The ASL Video Series was developed using humor and easy-to-learn steps that make you want to learn more! To get the maximum benefit from the series, we realized that it was important for you to see how real deaf people communicate. Therefore, the program displays American Sign Language (ASL) from real deaf people (not actors and actresses) in very natural settings.
In addition to learning ASL, the ASL Video Series feature segments on "Deaf History and Culture" and "Basic Rules of Grammar" to help enhance your knowledge and understanding of communicating with deaf people.
ASL Video Series
Throughout the series, you will see special appearances of many famous deaf people including Laurent Clerc, Douglas Tiden, William "Dummy" Hoy, Robert Weitbrecht, Frederick Schreiber, Art Kruger, I. King Jordan, Nancy Bloch, Tom Elliott, and other important figures.
Kevin Struxness, a Deaf historian, will share stories about Deaf culture and Deaf history of ASL, the Deaf community in today's world, major Deaf organizations, Gallaudet University, residential schools for the Deaf, and local community service agencies and clubs for the Deaf.
Police
G. Wayne Miller, a Deaf instructor, will guide you through each lesson and explain each level of ASL from beginning to advanced allowing you to learn the language within the contexts. Another Deaf instructor, Lucinda O'Grady Batch, will explain very simple rules of grammar. She will also help you develop appropriate facial expressions and body shifts which are integral parts of ASL.
To help develop your vocabulary, the series also introduces live vocabulary signers who model the appropriate sign (word) along with the corresponding object or action.
Each lesson (videotape) of the ASL Video Series is 75 - 90 minutes long and includes some voice overs. Not all of the actions are voiced, however, so as to provide you with the optimal learning benefit from this program.
This program is designed to motivate and excite you as you learn the real language of ASL. Satisfaction is guaranteed! Only defective tapes will be accepted for a full refund.
