Jr., Vice President of Finance and Joanne DeBee, Vice President. The original company, DeBee Productions was a deaf-owned independent company founded in 1985 by James DeBee to film documentaries, and educational videotapes focused on deaf issues for deaf and hearing people. Mr. DeBee did a lot of freelance work for DeBee Productions. Mr. DeBee and his talented staff invested a large quantity of time, along with years of experience, in researching and developing this niche of the industry. As a director and producer, Mr. DeBee understands the Deaf and hard of hearing market and is qualified to meet their own special market's needs. These products can also be utilized by hearing people. There has been an increase in deaf awareness in society through the media; Deaf actors in television and film, Gallaudet University protest, and recognition of American Sign Language as an official foreign language.
DeBee Communications' mission is to improve the quality of education for the Deaf. Its purpose is to develop, improve and market products directly to the Deaf/hard of hearing and hearing communities. The Company's emphasis is in the areas of video, film,
photography and multimedia to produce instructional sign language and educational deaf culture materials for both children and adults. DeBee Communications has a fervent desire to promote positive and realistic videotapes and films, especially about deaf people, their language, culture, and so forth, and to provide accurate cultural information which may clear up many damaging myths and stereotypes about deaf people. These high quality, affordable educational videotapes are available to all public and private schools (elementary, junior and senior high and adult schools) residential schools for the deaf, universities, and libraries.
In addition, individuals such as parents, relatives and friends of deaf children,
professionals, teachers, interpreters, and the general public can all benefit from these innovative videotapes. DeBee Communications also functions as a distribution center of educational and informative videotapes.
Mr. DeBee garnered two "ACE" awards, the National Cable Television Association's Emmy, in 1985, as best television series for special audiences, and in 1986, outstanding programming achievement for The Los Angeles Club for the Deaf Story documentary depicting the rise and fall of a well-known deaf club. DeBee Communications has completed American Sign Language Video Series Lesson 1-6 (ASL Video Series). Numerous production work includes Vista's Signing Naturally Level II, American Sign Language Literature Series, GLAD of, by & for Deaf People, Protect Yourself, A Basic Guide to Self Defense, Fingerspelling Fluency, Self Defense: Women Teaching Women, Once Upon A Time...Children's Classics, World Beyond Sound, 129 shows on National Cable Network and other programs. DeBee Communications also completed two thirty-second commercials for Sprint; one on how to use the California Relay Service and the other on how to use 9-1-1 emergency through a TTY and CRS.
